Baltimore Poet and Music Producer Releases Spoken Word Compilation Album

Baltimore, MD (September 13, 2012) – A spoken word poet that produces music for other poets is a rare find and an extremely rewarding experience for Walter Matthews, also known as the “Poet of Pain,” also known as P.O.P. to many of his fellow poets and artists. He is pleased to release his first spoken word compilation album that is
comprised of several spoken word artists he has produced around the country.  This album, “P.O.P. The Compilation, Volume 1,” features some of Matthew’s best work with other poets.

Matthews was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, where he resides, and has transitioned from writing short stories at age 10 to writing as a Master of Ceremony or M.C. at age 20 and again as a poet at age 30. He is inspired by some incredibly talented poets such as Maya Angelou, Gil Scott Heron, Nas and Krs- One. Producers that have inspired Matthews include Quincy Jones, Butch Vig, Kanye West and Just Blaze.  “The thing that inspires me is the live instrumentation of bands. I love the imperfections and unpredictability of live music,” said Matthews. This poet and music producer bought his first guitar and a four track recorder in 1996, which led to the production of some very organic music. In 2005, Matthews was introduced to the world of digital recording and in 2007 recorded his first official album entitled, K-jil Revelation.

“I want to share with the world the fruits of my musical creations. Most of all show them the connection and unity between fellow creative souls. Without people, my production would be a beat without a heart and to me, vocals and music together are that heartbeat,” said Matthews. Bringing technology to the forefront and basic human interaction with spoken word artists all over the country has allowed this producer and his artists to feel as if they were working directly in the studio together, albeit they are not. To make the process work, he ensures he is readily available and provides the best in customer service, which many artists rarely see in most music producers, in order to create a unique and user-friendly experience.

“I just want to show people that poetry with music can transcend any box that it is in and breakthrough all limitations. Just like Hip-Hop, poetry musically should not be contained to one genre and should be
universal,” said Matthews.

There are a total of 18 tracks on the album and it features 10 artists that Matthews has produced. Spoken word artists on the album are from Baltimore, New York, Atlanta, Chicago, Tacoma, Seattle, New Haven, South Carolina, Miami, Oakland and Texas. “When you do it right, your voice and message becomes timeless and infinite. I just want to thank all that follow and support what I do. Stay tuned.” said Matthews. For more information, visit www.popproductionz.com.
