UPDATE (3:12 p.m., Jan. 31)—One person was killed and another person was injured in a collision Wednesday evening in the Rosedale area. 

Police have identified the woman killed in the accident as 49-year-old Sandra Lynn Vogel, of the 21000 block of Big Woods Road in Dickerson, MD.

Officers responded to the 8100 block of Philadelphia Road at 6:13 p.m. on Jan. 30 for reports of a head-on collision involving four vehicles, according to police spokesman Cpl. John Wachter.

The driver of one vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, Wachter wrote in an email. The driver of a second vehicle was transported by ground to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, but that person's condition remains unknown.

The other two drivers were not injured in the collision, Wachter wrote. 

Initial evidence suggests that Vogel was traveling westbound in an eastbound lane of Philadelphia Road, according to Wachter, although the cause of the crash remains under investigation. 

A driver traveling eastbound in an eastbound lane of Philadelphia Road saw Vogel's vehicle and tried to swerve to avoid it, side-swiping it in the process; that vehicle then ran head-on into a third vehicle, he wrote.

The identities of those involved in the crash have not yet been released pending investigation.
