A bunch of Parkville-area programs, from school art departments to scouting troops and rec sports are starting the new year a little richer thanks to wins in the Parkville-Carney Business Professional Association holiday window-decorating contest.

Ed Pinder, a Parkville attorney and board member for the association, recently announced the winners.

Check out photos from the decorated businesses in the gallery above.

Runners up included Girl Scout Troop 1048 (Sportsline, Office of Dr. Timothy Madgar), Parkville Girls Softball (Pinder Legal, Low Pro Graphics), Parkville Danzations (Parkville Rec Center, The Cutting Corner), and Boy Scout Troop 475 (Office of Dr. Stephen Verapitas).

Runners up each receive $125.

"Let me thank you for all the wonderful art work. I have heard many positive comments about the art work," Pinder wrote in an email. "I know from talking to some of the kids that they had fun; and were thrilled to have such a public and large "glass canvas" to work with. You should be proud of not only their artistic abilities but also their civic pride."

Checks will be presented to winners during the Parkville-Carney Business Professional Association Networking and Member Appreciation Event from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Jan. 17 at Racer's Cafe.

We have some very talented kids in Parkville/Carney! I love hearing about the positive things our children are doing in the community--we don't hear it enough! Thanks Parkville-Carney Business Professional Assoc. for doing this for the neighborhood. It was nice to driving around noticing the different displays.

It is a great positive story of young people doing a wonderful service to brighten up the Parkville shopping corrider. It is wonderful to hear young people using their talents to do a positive job instead of the losers that rob houses and cars, steal and highjack cars and kill people. Thank you, young students and the Parkville-Carney Business Professional Assoc. You all are GREAT!!!!
