Carney Area Food Pantry In Need
Victor's Vittles, a food pantry that operates out of Christus Victor Lutheran Church, needs donations for needy families in the Carney area.
As we head into the holiday season, an area food pantry is asking for assistance in feeding those in need.
Victor's Vittles, an outreach program of Christus Victor Lutheran Church, is in need of donations of both perishable and non-perishable food items to help out families in the Carney area.
For the past 13 years the pantry, located at 9833 Harford Road, has been working with families in the 21234, 21236 and 21286 ZIP codes.
In a previous interview with Patch, program founder and director Charles Leight said that living in one of the areas the pantry serves is one of the only prerequisites to receiving assistance.
"You have to live in a ZIP code that we serve ... we offer food to people based on need, and you have to be honest with us about the number of people in your family," he told Patch in Dec. 2010.
Meg O'Hare, president of the Carney Improvement Association, recently sent an email asking for donations and volunteers for the food pantry to come forward.
"The pantry relies on donations to maintain the increasing numbers of families who come for help. We get weekly food donations from local food stores, and individuals," she wrote.
"Not only does Victor's Vittles help those in need who come to the pantry for assistance, they also facilitate a way for those who want to volunteer in a worthwhile cause to do so. The number of scheduled volunteers fluctuates, so new volunteers are always encouraged to step forward."
The pantry is open on Saturdays from 9-11:30 a.m., and anyone who wants to make a donation or offer their skills as a volunteer is encouraged to contact the church at 410-668-8089.
