Citypaper Names Parkville-area Businesses Best of Baltimore
Parkville is the home of Baltimore's best comic shop, doughnut and Indian food, according to the Citypaper.
Three local businesses were recently named among the Best in Baltimore by the Baltimore Citypaper.
The most recent issue of the alternative weekly publication gave accolades to Parkville-area businesses for offering the best doughnuts, best Indian food, best "sexy workout" and being the best comic book shop for an expert.
Here's who won, and what Citypaper had to say:
Dining
- Best Doughnut: The Fractured Prune Doughnut Shoppe — "Taking indulgence to a whole new level, the Fractured Prune on Harford Road defies traditional doughnut convention with its made-to-order circular sweets."
- Best Indian: Pavan Foods — "When a place like Pavan Foods opens in a city like New York or Los Angeles, it takes about two weeks before it’s overrun by hipster foodies in search of the next great hole-in-the-wall monument to authentic ethnic cuisine. But lucky for us, we’re in Baltimore, so Pavan Foods has remained under the radar for years even though it serves some of the city’s best (and cheapest) all-vegetarian Indian food."
Goods and Services
- Best Comic Book Store for an Expert: Collectors Corner — "...the best thing about Collector’s Corner is the atmosphere. They’ve got family game nights, a comic reading group, a women-only comics club, movie nights, anime nights, and hands-down the best Free Comic Book Day party on either side of the Mason-Dixon Line. You will never find a more delightful hive of scum, villainy, comic books, board games, plastic Batmen, and nerd-babes dressed as Supergirl."
- Best Sexy Workout: Xpose Fitness — "When most think of exotic dancing, exercise probably isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. Xpose Fitness offers pole- and chair-dancing classes to help ladies stay in shape, build confidence, and spice it up in the bedroom. All classes are taught by extraordinarily talented women with experience working all skill levels."
Nearby in Lauraville, Tooloulou won Best Po'Boy sandwich and just down Rossville Boulevard, Binkert's has the Best German Sausage.
Do you agree these are some of the best businesses in their categories? Are you surprised to learn there are so many winners in the area? Tell us in the comments.

Also of note, Ryan's Relics won "Best used furniture", which is at his new location at 7900 Belair Road. I still prefer the original location at 8100 Belair Road where he sells the smaller vintage and secondhand items since I'm not in the market for furniture. www.RyansRelics.com
