County Public Works Director To Discuss Harford, Joppa Intersection

Ed Adams will speak to the Greater Parkville Community Council about plans to improve the intersection of Harford and Joppa roads at a Thursday night meeting.

If you live in Parkville or Carney, you're probably aware that the intersection of Harford and Joppa roads is one of the toughest spots to navigate during the commute.

Fortunately, it looks like relief for commuters is on the way.

On Thursday night Ed Adams, Baltimore County's Director of Public Works, will speak to the Greater Parkville Community Council about future improvements to the intersection, according to an email from group president Ruth Baisden.

Greater Parkville Community Council holds meetings at 7 p.m. in the Parkville Senior Center, 8601 Harford Road.

Adams will also address concerns related to repair of local roads, storm drains and sidewalks and traffic calming on local residential streets, the email states.

Baisden wrote that the group also plans to discuss improvements to the Harford Road Main Street Business District and a proposed development near the aforementioned intersection.

Do you think there need to be improvements to the intersection of Harford and Joppa roads? Will you attend the meeting Thursday night? Tell us in the comments.

I think Harford and Joppa Intersections need fixing. Don't know if I will make the meeting Thursday. I am looking forward to seeing what they have in store for us to see what the plan is for making it easier.

I have always appreciated the hard working Baltimore County Public Works employees and their boss, Ed Adams.

Bureau of Bureau of Traffic Engineering and Transportation Planning is a division within Department of Public Works that it is harder to appreciate because they use and outdated method from 1968 to evaluate intersections which enabled developers to continue to overdevelop in all communities. There is always hope that this will change.

Harford Road needs improvements in general; the speed needs to be controlled, maybe a second traffic light between the beltway and Joppa Rd will control that while enabling pedestrians to safely cross near the library.

Additionally, sight lines along the right away need to be reviewed especially at Richmond Ave and Harford Road, the Shell station has a tall vacuum and tire air units which prevent drivers from clearly seeing oncoming traffic with entering Harford Road. I'm sure there are other visual impairments along Harford Road that create blind spots for drivers turning onto Harford Road.
