Get Out! Weekend Fun in and Around Town

Discover several outdoor festivals this weekend and take part in the music, arts, wine and wellness.

May is the perfect time of year to enjoy festivities outdoors, and this weekend is no exception.  Check out the events below—most are also listed on the Patch calendar—for nearby celebrations of arts, music, community, wine and wellness.

Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival
When/ Where:
May 21 and 22 marks the date for the 11th annual Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival at Sandy Point State Park. Gates open at 11 a.m., and the music ends at 8 p.m.
Why Go? In 2010, the Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival raised $50,000 for local charities. If contributing to that effort again is not a good enough reason for you to go, let the music be your motivation!  With a lineup that includes Chris Issak, Little Feat, and Kenny Wayne Shepherd, blues enthusiasts will not be disappointed.
Pricing: In advance, expect to pay $55 for one day, and $95 for two days. At the gate, one day is $70 and two days' admission is $120.

St. Pius X Carnival
When/ Where:
On Friday, the St. Pius X Carnival kicks off at the school and parish grounds at 6428 York Road in the Rodgers Forge. Held from 4 to 11 p.m. all weekend, this fundraiser will include rides, a moonbounce, a wheel of chance, games, raffles and great food.
Why Go? Support your local Catholic school and neighborhood resource while having a fun evening out and about with friends, family and neighbors.
Pricing: Free admission leaves bills in your wallet for games and food!

Why Go? A fantastic lineup of live music, great lectures and workshops, special meditations and drumming, healthy food (including vegan), dancing and an overall good vibe experience! Learn and grow toward enlightenment and at 8 p.m. both evenings, do a little trance-dancing to the music of TELESMA, a premier tribal rock band with psychedelic roots.
