Crabs, Beer and Live Music at The Barn
Where/When: The Barn is an interesting mix of local folks upstairs in the bar, but downstairs, a crabhouse awaits with heavy loads of that white meat and Old Bay that Marylanders love.
Why Go? Friday night, the band Double Deuce brings the stage to life with southern rock, classic rock and standby favorites. With great cocktails and lots of draught beer on tap, The Barn knows how to take you from a scrumptious crab dinner downstairs to dancing the night away on the upstairs dance floor. At The Barn, dinner and dancing takes on new meaning.
Pricing: The band's cover charge is $7, and of course, market price for crabs apply.
Urinetown: Doesn't Stink
What/When: At Patapsco High School & Center For the Arts in Dundalk, they might be used to the smell of the golden twins in passing, but this clever high school performance of the Broadway musical Urinetown has no stink about it.
Presented from May 26 through May 29, with evening shows at 7 p.m., and weekend day showings at 2:30 p.m.
Why Go? A satirical musical comedy with music by Mark Hollmann, lyrics by Hollmann and Greg Kotis and book by Kotis pokes fun at the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement and municipal politics. The show also parodies musicals such as The Cradle Will Rock and Les Misérables, and the Broadway musical itself as a form. In reverse pantomime style, the unconventional plotline shatters audience expectations of a pleasant ending.
Pricing: Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students and seniors.
The Imaginative Cinema Society (ICS) - Movie Night
What/When: The Imaginative Cinema Society (ICS) hosts a movie night on Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Perry Hall Presbyterian Church on Belair Road. This club is not affiliated with the church.
Why Go? For lovers of fantasy, science fiction, mystery and horror films, this is an avenue to meet your neighbors with like minds.
Pricing: Annual dues are $25 person, $40/couple and $15 for each added primary membership (prorated).
Weekend Brew at the Zoo
What/When: This weekend, the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore hosts a beer and wine tasting with food from Famous Dave's.
Why Go? If you're into brew or the zoo, it's a good reason to be a part of this fundraising effort to support one of Baltimore's favorite sites to see. And Famous Dave's ups the ante with some good eats and a VIP deal that gets you first-rate accommodations.
Pricing: General admission is $45, members pay $30. Non-drinkers pay $25, and those under 21 (along with designated drivers) pay $10.
