The Parkville area's newest grocery store is set to open to the public Friday morning after a ribbon-cutting and preview luncheon Thursday afternoon.

The 56,000 square foot Klein's ShopRite, owned and operated by Harford County's Klein family, will offer fresh produce, meat and seafood along wth baked goods, natural, organic and gluten-free products, according to a statement from the company.

Check out photos from the grand opening and ribbon cutting in the gallery above.

At the Thursday ribbon-cutting event Klein's Chief Operations Officer Marshall Klein told community members and officials that his family was excited to be moving to the Parkville/Loch Raven community, where they'd been seeking to open a store for about three years.

"This has been one of the longest and shortest projects I've been a part of," Klein said. He explained that though the family-owned business had been looking to make a move into Baltimore County for years, the actual construction of the store took only 90 days once the ball was rolling.

At Thursday's preview, Fifth District County Coucilman David Marks said that he'd been involved in many shopping center and grocery store openings but that he couldn't recall one so involved with the community.

"You reached out to community members and elected officials, and I commend you for that," he said.

Marks also touched on the economic importance of the project. He echoed a statement from Klein's that the store would create 250 jobs in the community.

State Sen. Kathy Klausmeier offered a citation to the Klein family on behalf of her office.

"It will really help the community who will be able to walk here, and buy their groceries, and to employ all these people. I just want to say thank you," Klausmeier said.

I know this shopping center very well. I lived in Parkville since I was a child. I used to go bowling, in the 70's, at the bowling alley that anchored the Oakleigh Road side of the shopping center. In addition, I lived on the other side of Perring Parkway on Wycliffe Ave. for more than 8 years. Over the last 40 years, I have watched many shops in this center that closed their doors, including several grocery stores. I think Klein's will do very well and this area desperately needs a "full service" grocery store. I have a "one word" caveat to Klein's and that is "SECURITY". Klein's will need it 'round-the-clock, 24/7, 365. Good luck to Klein's. A well respected busines and newest member of the Parkville community.

I know people that worked in the previous Super Fresh. Shoplifting was a BIG problem. If Klein's have extra visible security personnel and clear HD security cameras, they should do well. I hope it stays a business in this shopping center for many years to come.

Thank you for making good use of this space. I have lived in the community for over 20 years and I was hoping another supermarket would serve this area. Knowing a family business will occupy this space makes this single mom very happy. Just maybe you will employ some of our young people. I have a 14 year old, who is ready to make her mark on becoming a productive citizen. You have considered the needs of the community and we shall shop there! Welcome Klein family!!!

I too am pleased to have a new supermarket in the area. I totally agree security and employment opportunities are essential. Thanks for coming. Please stay for a long while. Shawn

I will not be going to this store, or any store in this shopping center. The amount of crime, especially violent crime, is troublesome to say the least. Just a few years ago a woman was shot in her car at 10:30 in the morning. With this kind of violence happening in broad day light, I will not be risking my life to buy groceries at this store.
