Winter Weather Advisory In Effect Early Monday

The advisory lasts from 5 a.m. until noon in much of Maryland.

Much of Maryland—from the D.C. metro area to the Baltimore suburbs—is under a winter weather advisory Monday morning.

The advisory is in effect from 5 a.m. until noon in Baltimore, Carroll, Harford, Howard and Montgomery counties, as well as Baltimore City, the National Weather Service announced Sunday afternoon.

Temperatures are expected to be in the high 20s by midday, but morning commuters may encounter freezing rain mixed with sleet and possibly snow, according to the advisory.

Only a trace of accumulation is expected. Winds from the south will gust to 10 to 15 mph, the advisory said.

The precipitation "will cause travel difficulties," the advisory said. Drivers should use caution and "be prepared for slippery roads and limited" visibility, the forecast stated.

Sidewalks and bridges are particularly susceptible to icy conditions.

My kids get on th bus at 530 in Harford county. I wish they would just make it 2 hours delay now. Better safe than sorry. I don't want to see anyone get hurt in the ice and freezing rain!!

It's always the need to be on the look out for 'the other guy' who is driving too fast!

BCPS students are off tomorrow, so no worries for the kids. Faculty and staff is a different matter, however...

My child just left for his non-public school. Roads here are just wet and temps are above freezing and expected to just go up from here on out. We've already been out and there's nothing frozen around; roads are just wet. However, I don't speak for other areas and counties, which could be experiencing other conditions.

Very icy in Reisterstown. When will they include that into the Hereford Zone? We still have a few inches on the ground.

Here in Northern Harford County, our country road are very icy! Shame on Harford Community College for being one of the few colleges without any kind of delays!! A early morning class is not worth the life of my child, so I had to fight with her to stay in bed!!

Why not just move south and avoid the problem altogether. The south is waiting for you to arrive with open arms, low housing prices and friendly people. Fret no more about the weather down here:)

BCPS would have cancelled school today due to weather...except it was already a teacher in-service day!
