Page’s Corner Honored for Mission Read

The owners of a Parkville business were honored for their store's book drive and literacy program.

Page's Corner wants to hook your kids on books.

Councilman David Marks honored Wendy Dean, Aphrodite Georgelakos and Elizabeth Panageotou, co-owners of Parkville's Page’s Corner, with a Baltimore County resolution of appreciation on March 28 for their Mission Read program.

"As parents and educators, we are very excited to be able to give back to the community in which we live and work," Panageotou said in a news release. "This is a wonderful opportunity for everyone in the community to recognize the importance of reading within the home."

On April 1, the company launched its yearlong literacy campaign called Mission Read that is designed to stress the importance of reading at all levels, according to a news release.

Mission Read will also partner with BonBon Break, an online magazine, to use articles highlighting the importance of reading, and partner with local writers, business leaders and education advocates to showcase their efforts to increase reading.

In addition to advocating for increased reading residents will also be encouraged donate books as part of a drive that will coincide with Mission Read.  The co-owners, along with Marks, decided that students at Parkville’s White Oak School will receive gently used books first.

Residents who would like to donate books can drop them off in boxes labeled Mission Read in the school’s lobby.

Page’s Corner offers a product called the Storybox that provides a book, reading comprehension questions and the materials to make two story-related crafts from anywhere to two to 10 children.
