Parkville's Giant Grand Opening
The new grocery store opened Thursday evening and drew scores of people for promotions.

After a just a month of intensive renovation, Giant Food opened their new store in Parkville Shopping Center Thursday night amid a ton of fanfare.
The grand opening event was attended by Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz, County Council members Cathy Bevins and David Marks and Third District City Councilman Robert Curran along with scores of Parkvillians excited to see the return of a grocery store to the neighborhood.

"This is great, the new store is beautiful," said Jessica Hack, a Parkville woman who attended the grand opening. "Parkville has been hungry for a new grocery store."
"I like it — when I came in here while it was a Fresh & Greens there were really no sales," said Scott Dufel, another Parkville resident. "Giant is sort of known for their sales, so I'm excited."
"In the last four weeks while we opened this, we met many in the community—at the blind school, at the high school, even in the parking lot as they drove by and wondered when we opened ... I've got to say, I'm honored to be here," said the new store's manager, Marty Tibert.

Tibert described the new store as "state-of-the-art" and praised his team for getting it open so quickly.
The new Giant has some pretty cool features—a cafe with a salad bar, a fresh prepared foods section, a bakery and a deli where you can place your order electronically and shop while you wait.
"I'm glad that Giant chose to invest themselves in Baltimore County, specifically in the sixth district," said councilwoman Cathy Bevins. "I congratulate actually all who live in Parkville and the surrounding areas because now you have this great facility to shop at."
Giant brought the Parkville facility from Fresh & Greens back in February and completely renovated about 85 percent of the building before the grand opening.

I love how these hack politicians all show up to bask in someone else's success. It wasn't THEIR hard work or money that went into that store or the business in general. In fact, if the politicians and the government they shove down our throats would get out of the way there'd be MORE grand openings.

Mr. Brown, instead of posting negative comments you should begin to attend some community organization meetings and the Police & Community Relations Council meetings and volunteer your services. Then you can voice your opinions in a positive way instead of being so negative. Mr. Marks attends every event we invite him too. If he's unable to attend, he sends his Legislative Representative. That has happened only once. If you need a representative you can count on, that's David Marks. I live in this community and find it very rewarding to be a part of these organizations. It helps you to know what is going on and it allows you to know who cares about what is going on. Hope to see you at one of our meetings.

Apparently, Mr Brown has no knowledge of the tireless work Mr. David Marks does for his constituents. Mr Marks has always been a source for help even when he was in the Republician Club as their president. I hope Mr Brown does attend community meetings and see how lucky Perry Hall and Parkville residents are to have such involved elected officials.

I believe that Mr. Marks is and has been and abnormal politician. I mean this in a nice way if you may.. It is my opinion that Mr. Marks has been vocal on many issues. You see his comments in many places. I do agree with both Mr. Brown and Ms Crums comments. Many of our politicians come out of the wood work and stand tall when the lime light is on but once the light is off they go into hiding. Take for instance Mr. Marks counterpart on the county council Mr. Todd Huff. I vary rarely see him commenting on news issues on Patch.com. Yet when the lime light was on recently in Essex at a Chamber of Commerce event for Marine Trades Mr. Huff was right there for the photo-op. Like I said I see both sides of the debate here. It would be nice if all politicians would just stay in touch with their constituents. Do not sway away from the topics you were elected upon. Take part in the community just not for the good times but also when the tuff issues arise.

Ah, Councilman Todd Huff - the invisible man in our part of the county. So far he hasn't attended anything he's been invited to nor does he, or his staff, answer e-mails. Oh, excuse me, he was invited to the PCRC Town Hall meeting and declined due to a prior engagement. David Marks is the one we can count on and I truly respect the great work he has done to date. If you contact Mr. Marks about anything, he immediately responds. We need more representatives like David Marks and Baltimore County would be a better place.
