Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints did a major clean-up of the trails, playgrounds, pavillions, parking lots and streams at Double Rock Park on Saturday.

About 300 members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints joined community members and elected officials to clean up Parkville's Saturday morning.

According to a statement from the church group, "volunteers planted an 1800 square-foot rain garden, repaired and painted several hand rails, built six new park benches, painted the Alex Pavilion, cleaned the stream, raked leaves and installed rocks to prevent erosion."

The event was coordinated by Michele Calderon, a church member and Parkville resident, and Larry Simmons, special assistant to County Executive Kevin Kamenetz. Elected officials, including Del. Joe Boteler, Del. John Cluster and Sen. Kathy Klausmeier were also there to lend a hand, along with Parkville's Rec and Parks supervisor Jerry Hahn.
