Savers, which signed a lease on a 39,000-square foot property in Joppa Heights last June, celebrated the grand opening of its Parkville store on Thursday.

The location, at 1925 E. Joppa Road, previously housed a Giant Food store. The grocer vacated the premises in March 2007.

Councilman David Marks participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony commemorating the opening of the thrift store.

"After six years, I am happy that this long-vacant shopping center has found a new tenant, and one that will hire more than 50 people in the community," Marks wrote in an email.
