Police: Putty Hill Homeowner Fights With Burglar
The burglary was reported on the morning of July 31.
A man discovered and fought with a burglar in the kitchen of his Putty Hill Avenue Home this week.
A husband and wife were in the basement of their home in the 3200 block of Putty Hill Avenue, doing laundry around 2:15 a.m. on Jul 31, when they heard a noise coming from the upstairs, according to Baltimore County police spokeswoman Cpl. Cathleen Batton.
The husband investigated the noise and discovered a burglar in the kitchen, rummaging through the wife's purse. The man attempted to take the purse back from the burglar and got into a "physical altercation," Batton said.
The fight continued on the back porch and the burglar escaped with the purse, Batton said.
Police described the suspect as a male, between 35 and 45 years old, 5 feet 10 inches tall and approximately 200 pounds with a medium build, dark complexion and bald head.
Batton said the door to the home had been left unlocked.

Nice description of the punk. Obviously he was black since race was not mentioned.

Sad the homeowner didn't have a gun and use it on this criminal.

Maybe they should 've had a baseball bat to hit the criminal with.

Isn't anyone else bothered by some of the details of this story? For one, who is doing laundry at 2 am? And then, let's be honest, how many husbands would be up at that hour helping their wives??? hmmmm... ;)

Some people work night shift so they are night owls. Don't just assume that if you are sleeping at that hour that everyone else is too, Mrs. H! And my husband helps me with the laundry all the time. Sorry for your luck.

Sounds like a drug deal gone bad. As Mrs. H. said, I can't imagine ANYONE being up at 2:15 a.m. doing laundry for any reason whatsoever. The description sounds so vague that it leads me to believe that the "victim" knows full well what the identity of the perp is and the "victim" plans to take care of business himself without the assistance of the police.

I was thinking the same thing. Why did the burglar pick this house with an unlocked door and lights on at 2:15am. Why didn't the homeowner defend himself with some object like a gun, baseball bat or something! Maybe the police will get into the real story of this burglary.

I wish that we could check out the home owner's name on the MD Judiciary Case Search web site to determine if he has any criminal history. THis could shed a lot of light on things. For now, I guess that the police want to remind us that if you decide to get up at 2:00 a.m. to do some laundry or perform any other housekeeping chores then you should make sure that your doors are locked and you take your valuables into the basement with you. Oh yes, one more thing, if you own a gun, DON'T take it with you because if you should confront a criminal in your house you wouldn't want to light them up because we all know that the loss of a criminal's life would be such a tragedy.

I am the wife in this story. As a Parkville resident, some of the comments posted here truly sicken me. First, yes...the fact is, the man was black. And no, my husband and I are not racists. My husband did not have a weapon because when he went to investigate the noise he thought it was our dog, not a perpetrator. We are not drug dealers, drug users, drug smugglers, or any other permutation of these. We are a two young, law abiding, hard working, taxpaying citizens. We are your neighbors in your community that experienced a terrifying event. Instead of our story being used to help bring a criminal to justice and making our streets a bit safer for everyone it has become a forum for questioning, doubting, and criticizing us, the VICTIMS.
The reason we were up at 2:00 AM? I just had a baby. Doing laundry? Because when you have an infant and both parents need to work to make ends meet sometimes the only time to do the things that need to get done are while you are already up at 2 AM to feed your newborn. I hope what happened to us never happens to you; and if it does, I hope you are shown compassion and understanding.

Shannaberry, I'm so sorry that happened to you, but glad to know that you and your family are fine. Shame on the posters whose insensitive and just plain stupid comments jumped to conclusions that were so insulting to you and yours. Please know that not everyone in Parkville thinks that way.

Shannaberry - I hope these neighbors don't live near me, especially Mrs. H and Harry Callahan - these two people are especially despicable. I am doing laundry all of the time at 2, 3, and 4 am, and I do not have a baby, and I am over 60 years old. Unfortunately my "clock" is turned around and I suffer terribly from lack of sleep because of this. I do not see anywhere where any of these people have apologized for the mean and wicked things they have said. You should not even have posted a reply - it's none of their business why you were up - they are just nosy busybodies without a life who like to prey on people's hardships, and unfortunately they are in everyone's neighborhood. I have never left a comment before, but these people angered me to no end. Also, I have never been on this site before, but I am sure these same people are on this site all of the time leaving their wicked comments time after time. Stay safe Shannaberry and family.
