Rat Eradication Sweeps Set for Loch Raven Neighborhoods

The sweeps are scheduled to begin around late July.

Several Loch Raven-area neighborhoods will be the targets of Baltimore County's rat eradication sweeps this summer.

In an email, County Councilman David Marks said the sweeps by code enforcement will begin around late July.

"One of the most frequent complaints we receive is about the presence of rats, particularly in older neighborhoods," Marks said in the email. "Eliminating rats and other pests can improve public safety and our quality of life."

The targeted neighborhoods are: Ridgeleigh, Hillendale, Knettishall, Ridgely Oaks, and Loch Raven Village. In addition the program will target two Towson-area neighborhoods: Towson Manor Village and Towson Park.

Residents in affected neighborhoods will soon see signs with instructions on how to prepare for the sweeps, Marks said

In the email, Marks thanked Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz's staff and the departments of Code Enforcement and permits, approvals and inspections for attention to quality of life issues.

If residents pick up their animal waste and USE trash cans, instead of plastic bags, there would be less rats. I think there should be a county law, all trash must be in trash cans, not plastic bags. Also, I think landlords SHOULD be mandated to provide trash cans for their renters. The majority or renters don't buy and use trash cans; instead they put their trash out in plastic bags.
