The Barn Taphouse Opens In Carney

After closing nearly 10 months ago, the popular Carney bar has opened in a new incarnation.

It's true. After being closed for nearly 10 months, the Barn in Carney reopened Wednesday afternoon.

Owner Bob Rush II spent months completely gutting the interior and rebuilding from the ground up, and the fruits of his labor have paid off. The renovated restaurant now features 24 beers on draft and a menu focused on local producers.

Currently, the upstairs at The Barn Taphouse is open for business from 11 a.m.-2 a.m. every day of the week. Rush said that the downstairs crab house is set to reopen in a few weeks, likely toward the end of April or beginning of May.

The Barn's new menu offers "pub food with a twist" and is focused on local producers—on it you'll find Roseda Farms beef, Stone Mill Bakery breads, Roma sausage, Prigel ice creams, Boordy Wines and Dangerously Delicious Pies.

Items include hot roast beef & gravy, meatloaf wrapped in bacon served with mashed sweet potatoes and green beans, Roseda Farms beef burgers, salads and soups.

The beer selection at the bar features a number of craft brews—on the current draft list you'll find Brooklyn Lager, Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA, Evolution Lot 3 IPA, Full Tilt Pale Ale, Lancaster Strawberry Wheat, Stone Arrogant Bastard; and two beers brewed especially for the Barn.

The Barn Brew, brewed by Evolution Brewing Company in Salisbury, is a medium-bodied, hop-forward beer while Pipeline Hat Trick, named for the soccer club owned by Rush's brother and brewed by Estrella Damm, is a lighter bodied beer.

For those less interested in beer, the bar also features a number of signature cocktails like "The Oriole" made with Smirnoff Orange vodka, orange juice and sprite and a Bloody Mary with bacon vodka and an antipasto skewer of shrimp, olive, mozarella, pepperoni and pepperoncini.
