The Barn To Reopen as Tap and Crab Houses

The Carney building’s owner said the business will reopen in about two weeks.

After about four months of renovations, the establishment formerly known as The Barn will be reopening in about two weeks.

The Carney restaurant, located at 9527 Harford Road, will reopen as The Barn Tap House upstairs and The Barn Crab House downstairs.

"We’re looking at it more of a high end sports bar. There will be 24 drafts on tap—microbrews, that type of thing—the menu has been completely redone. Everything has been remodeled in here," said Bob Rush, the landlord and father of the owner Bob Rush II.

The building, which was built in 1859, has been in the Rush family since 1979. The restaurant has been completely remodeled with everything including the heating system, plumbing and kitchen being replaced.

"There was quite a few challenges with nothing being square or plumb level or anything like that," Bob Rush said.

In July, The Barn closed because of financial mismanagement, a partner in the business said at that time. None of the individuals involved in that version of the restaurant are involved in the current venture.

Moderater, I flagged this is inappropriate because this person is purporting to know something that he doesn't. This is not the beer list apparently so the guy is claiming something that is false. I have seen the real (planned) beer list and while it is not perfect and could have more local small batch brews, it is certainly good enough for beer lovers. Those of us who like to good beer can never have enough options. I love Racers and will always go there a lot, but I like a nicer place I can take a date and talk, a place I can take my kids with me (they are quiet and older), a place I can take a client I am friends with, a place a group of friends from out of town can go and catch up, and yes, acoustic music appeals to me. Plus, the crowd at Racers is pretty darn homogenous (yeah, I am a white guy in my early forties like the rest of the crowd there). I don't get the hate on another solid beer place opening. The more the merrier. Beats another lake trout place and certainly beats the old Barn in the eyes of most.

No live music=no need to go to the barn ever again. Just call it Racers North.

Two things -
1) We'd have to see an actual beer list to be able to determine whether it would even compete with Racers.
2) Nowhere in the article does it state there won't be live music.

Such negativity!! I can't wait for it to reopen. It would be great if they had someone come in and play acoustic though. I have many fond memories from my "younger" years. Now I like to go w/my family, they always have the best crabs!! I'm sure I'll enjoy the upstairs as well.

Maybe you should post the real list so some of the more gullible people posting here won't be fooled by whatever they read on the internet, cause everything you read on the internet is true, according to my French model girlfriend.

"A high end sports bar... microbrews". With the tap list posted above, it seems you are going for the exact opposite. With the beers listed above, you will be pulling in the same cheap, low-income demographic that The Barn pulled in previously. Not good for business.

Calling yourself a high end sports bar with "microbrews" and then posting that draft list above, is like a new restaurant calling itself a high end steakhouse and serving McDonald's burgers.

A quality craft beer bar in Parkville will THRIVE. Quality craft beer = one of the 2,500 breweries in the U.S., not owned by Bud, Miller or Coors (all of which are now foreign-owned / non-American companies). ALL of those beers listed above are owned by one of those big 3, with the exception of Sam Adams, which is only barely a "craft brewery" by definition.

So much good beer to be had from this state alone, including Brewer's Art, DuClaw Brewing Co., Flying Dog, Evolution, Heavy Seas and more. And guess what? People are willing to pay an extra $1 for a pint of GOOD beer. Like was mentioned above, even Firehouse Tavern now has local craft beer on draft! And people are now flocking there because of the good beer on tap and they are selling a lot of it. This is 2013, nobody wants that old sh*tty beer anymore. People are drinking good beer with flavor. People WANT good beer with flavor.

Cheap beer = cheap clientele = nail in the coffin. Get with the times if you want to last.

I am definitely not cheap or low-income, to generalize is ignorant. You are an idiot! Some of us may just happen to like their food or to meet up w/friends. There are a lot of establishments to choose from, so if you are not happy w/The Barn...don't go. Unless you have 1st hand knowledge of what The Barn will or will not consist of, you may want to hold your comments until you have facts to back them up!

Do remember though folks, a new business will face challenges early on and if changes need to be made, I'm sure they will see what needs to be changed and will hopefully take action. Let's give them time.

If it's a crab house you need to have a few taps of the standard swill like Bud, Coors Light and Natty Boh. I like a microbrew as much as the next guy, but not with crabs.

Hey idiots, just because some random poster lists beers doesn't mean that is what it is. Get some sense folks. I have an idea, let's not prejudge a place until it is open and operating for a while?!?! What a radical idea! Also, as for the live music thing, if you only go to restaurants or bars with live music you must have a pretty limited list of places. Some people like to hear one another talk and enjoy good food while drinking. No clue if this will turn into that sort of place, but I know that the old Barn had horrific food plus tables and chairs fallng apart (my son had one collapse under his 80 lbs). And the few good bottles of beer they had often ran out. I won't be missing that place. If it was such a great place, even with mismanagement, it could have made it. The few times I was there earlier than 8 pm it was nearly empty.

Hey folks, Cindy Wolf is opening a new restaurant downtown. It will be an homage to the American Diner Baltimore Style. It is sort of a take on Cafe Hon but without that crazy lady that runs it. And they WILL actually have live music every night after 10pm. Okay, this is bullcrap. But hey, I wrote it so in the comments section and none of you know who I am, so it must be true, right?!?!?

If it is going to be a "high end sports bar", don't forget that specialty drink called "The Flacco." It costs $120.60. The problem is... if you buy one, you have no money left for any other drinks, and you end up leaving.

I've lived in this area 30 years and my husband all his life.We loved going to the Barn for their crabs until 3 yrs ago and haven't been back since. The sign listed the crab prices (reasonable at the time), we went in to enjoy some....the so-called manager said they did't have any even close to that price. I asked why the prices on the sign weren't changed, he replied "Sorry, didn't have time to change it and if you don't like our prices go somewhere else." REALLY? GO SOMEWHERE ELSE? So we did and have never gone back! I'm looking forward to checking out the "NEW" Barn and hope to be a frequent customer AGAIN since they are conveniently right down the street from where I live. Come on Parkville.....give them a chance to recoop some old customers that were sent packing. Lets give them a little more credit, at least their trying AND I love that they are keeping the name of "The Barn" not like the idiot who changed it a few years back. The Barn is a local icon and an historical one at that....support them....give them a chance! PS. I hope they keep their sign up to date...lol
