The Great Escape: Take a Class at CCBC

Sometimes working on your own interests is a nice departure from life as you know it.

A happy mom makes a happy home. I try to remember this saying, because it's easy for a mom to get caught up with doing things for everyone else and saving her own needs for last. Mothers everywhere are doing this; it's just part of the job.

In the time it takes to read these few sentences, millions of mothers just put someone else first, getting children, partners and themselves off to start the day. And usually in that order.

While a weekend retreat from the motherhood grind is always a good plan—and usually that's where my mind goes when I consider the word escape—this week it hit me that sometimes retreating into one's own interests can be an exciting departure from the normal routine.

Break free from predictability by registering for a weekly class at CCBC Essex. From business, arts and writing to computer science, foreign languages and wellness, there's something for everyone.

Certain courses can be more therapeutic than others. Writing, theater and any courses in the arts are known to help nip stress in the bud and promote self-expression. The classes in fitness, boating and outdoor activities are perfect for this time of year.

Not only will a weekly class provide a regular yet brief period of time away, but taking time to cultivate your own interests and passions is sure to provide a lift in your spirits that will carry over to the other "need machines" in your house.
