It's interesting to me that the State would defend its redistricting plan, when it's clear to us that public input and third party plans had little to no effect on the outcome of the legislative (and congressional for that matter) redistricting plan. The latest round was used more as a pawn in the Governor's game of political posturing and strong arming his agenda through Annapolis. To say that this plan was somehow transparent is an absolute ridiculous absurdity. Where was the transparency when one of the Governor's appointed Redistricting Board members, Richard Stewart, was convicted of tax evasion? Would the Governor come out and be transparent with how they targeted Senators Brochin and Jacobs? Would they be transparent about how in the congressional redistricting, they carved out District 6 especially for Rob Garigiola? Just because you follow the letter of the law doesn't make you a transparent state of integrity.

They can say what they want, but they don't make any changes based on input from the public or the "opposition". Having Miller and Busch on the redistricting committee ensured that the process was entirely political and aimed at punishing and rewarding those who opposed or agreed with them, respectively.
