About this column:
Parkville-Overlea Patch readers weigh in with their opinions on the potential uses for vacant commercial space. The lot facing Belair Road between Belhaven Drive and Delight Avenue has sat vacant since the McDonald's store that once occupied it was demolished late last year. Today, I'm curious as to what you think would be a good fit for this commercial vacancy the Overlea-Fullerton area. The lot, which is offered for sale by Colliers International for $635,000, is approximately 2.2 acres. Currently, almost an entire acre of the property is zoned for business use while the remaining space is zoned for up to 5.5 homes per acre. Information on the Colliers listing for the property says the property has …
A Verizon Wireless store has moved out of Belair Belway Village. Signs in the windows encourage customers to visit a nearby location on Martin Boulevard in Middle River. According to the website for MacKenzie Commercial Realty, 2,400 square feet of space are available in the shopping center and the rent for the space is negotiable. A new business would share the shopping center with Sleepy's, a matress store, The Goldfather gold buyers and GEICO. A previous version of this article incorrectly stated that the Goldfather had vacated the space next to the former Verizon Wireless. Patch regrets …
Just next door to Insignia Hair & Body Studio on Rossville Boulevard is a vacant commercial space in need of a tenant. Last week, we asked you what business you thought might be a good fit for the former Humanim building on Harford Road—now we want you to answer the same question about this space in Rossville Center. The shopping center is located in the 7900 block of Rossville Boulevard, near the intersection with Ridge Road in Fullerton. The vacancy, a 1,562 square foot retail space, is offered for lease by KLNB/NAI for a rate of $10/square foot, according to real estate website Loopnet. …
Located near the Giant in Parkville Shopping Center, the vacant space that used to be Buffalo Wings & Beer is in need of a new tenant. The vacant space, managed by Regency Centers, is a total of 4,600 square feet. What sort of business (especially restaurant) do you think would you like to see in this space? Tell us in the comments. Ever since Burke's Pharmacy closed late in 2011, there's been a hole to be filled at 8500 Harford Road, the pharmacy's former home. According to a Baltimore Sun article published last October, owner Pat Burke made the decision to close the Parkville location along with a Burke's Pharmacy in Reisterstown and Chestnut AID pharmacy in Hampden. The question now is what would you like to see take Burke's place? An online real estate listing says that the 3,000 square foot building is available for lease at a rate of $3,450 per month and that you could buy the building (including two upstairs …

Parkville Shopping Center is, in some ways, a thriving hub of activity in the Parkville neighborhood. Recently, Patch reported that Giant supermarket is moving into the shopping center. Soon, a gym called Fitness 19 is expected to occupy one storefront and other tenants, like Cafe Euro and Parkville Lanes, are locally-owned businesses and old standbys. But several vacant storefronts remain in the shopping center. For today, we'll focus on one: a former podiatrist's office located at 7613 Harford Road, next to Cafe Euro. The website for Regency Centers, the real estate firm that handles …

The Fisherman's Wharf at the corner of Putty Hill Avenue and Belair Road has to have been closed up for at least two years. When Parkville-Overlea Patch launched we heard some rumors about renovations going on at the restaurant, but recently a sign went up on the corner. "Like" Parkville-Overlea Patch on Facebook and follow us on Twitter. The 2,700-square-foot building, listed by Prudential PenFed Realty, is located at 7928 Belair Road. The space, which the realtor touts as the location of an "established seafood business for 22 years," is available for lease or for sale. One real estate …
The space at 7810 Harford Road has been empty ever since tenants Atlantic Food Market closed up shop what seems like forever ago. According to Barbara Ayd, a realtor with Equity Realty, the 1,950 square foot space is up for sale. "There have been plenty of people interested in renting it, but the owner wants to sell," Ayd said. The building price is $350,000, according to Ayd. "The space has been renovated and the owner will build to suit," Ayd said. "He'd love to see a bakery go in there." We know what the building owner thinks — now we want to know what you think. Do you remember the …
Located just across Park Terrace from our first Visions for Vacancies location, the former location of a Sunny's Surplus store looms empty at 7906 Harford Road. Most recently the space was occupied by Northern Pharmacy & Medical Equipment and used as a storage space for supplies while a nearby storefront next to State Drugs is being renovated into a Northern Pharmacy location like the one next to Overlea Personal Physicians in Fullerton. The property at 7906 Harford Road includes approximately 3,335 square feet of enclosed space and was valued at a total of $319,000 in July 2012, according to…
Carney Village Shopping Center at the intersection of Harford and Joppa Roads is generally a hive of activity. Anchored by a Mars supermarket, the shopping center is home to a CVS, an eye doctor, an Asian restaurant and a Bank of America branch — an outlying building houses Raimondi's Florist and the new Yia Yia's Bakery branch. There's only one vacancy in the entire shopping center—a space close to the anchor store formerly occupied by Japanese restaurant Hikari Sushi. The space, managed by Continental Realty, has been vacant for close to a year, and it doesn't look as though any work has …
A chain link fence surrounds the former Giant Food store in the shopping center across Joppa Road from Jerry's Chevrolet—it's been vacant since Giant pulled out of the location over four years ago. The building, located at 1925 E. Joppa Road and managed by KLNB, is the anchor for the Joppa Heights shopping center, which is completely vacant save for two fast-food restaurants: Burger King and Checkers. The 39,375 square foot building can be subdivided to accomodate more than one business, according to the realtor's website. In last week's edition of Visions for Vacancies we generated some …

Visions for Vacancies is the name of a new column on Parkville-Overlea Patch that will explore the potential uses for vacant properties in our neighborhood. For the inaugural edition of the column we're going to kick start the discussion around a very visible retail space on Harford Road in Parkville's downtown business district. Formerly occupied by an M&T Bank Branch, the end-of-row building located at 7904 Harford Road has an awesome amount of potential as a retail space. The 3,816 square foot building is currently owned by commercial real estate services firm CB Richard Ellis and is up …
