Oak Crest Residents, Edgewood High School Students Sing-For a Lifetime!

PARKVILLE, MD—The performers of the Oak Crest Village Chorus and the Edgewood High School Chamber Singers  collaborated on concerts held at the Erickson Living retirement community on the evenings of April 6th and 7th.

The two concerts featured individual and combined performances under the direction of Sallie Horner (Oak Crest) and Jeffrey Winfield (Edgewood High School).

During the one-hour performances, the choirs sang eighteen selections and ended with “Rhythm of Life.”

The experience went beyond the two intergenerational concerts.
Over the last three months, the respective chorus members have exchanged letters and rehearsal videos to captured the theme of the concerts: Sing-- For a Lifetime!

These are brief excerpts from their correspondence:

“Singing in Carnegie Hall with the New York Philharmonic was truly a memorable performance in 1945!”

“I was blessed and encouraged and encouraged at any early age to develop my singing.  If music is your thing…stick with it!  I’m glad I did.”

“Singing gave me a new found confidence in myself…singing is life!”

“I’ve been singing since I was two years old and will never stop.  Music is life!”

The singers had time to get acquainted.  Following a rehearsal on Sunday, the performers enjoyed a pizza party, and a reception was held after Monday’s performance that included family members and friends.

Prior to the final selection, Ms. Horner stated  “we thank the Edgewood High School Chamber Singers for sharing your musical skills, energy and enthusiasm with us.  When you graduate from high school, your singing days are not over.  Keep singing…for a lifetime!”

Special thanks were offered to Bruce Horner, accompanist, Carol Chidsey, assistant accompanist, Nadine Wellington, announcer, and Sonia Purol, announcer.
