Dancing With Oak Crest's Stars

The first of three sold-out Dancing With the Oak Crest Stars performances was held Tuesday afternoon; proceeds from the event benefit two causes at the retirement community.

Ten couples took to the stage at Oak Crest Tuesday afternoon to dance and be judged in a home-grown version of the reality TV series Dancing With The Stars.

Dubbed "Dancing With the Oak Crest Stars", the event is in its third year and raises money for a couple of programs on the Oak Crest campus: one that awards scholarships to high school volunteers and another that benefits residents.

The couples, comprised of Oak Crest residents and staff, began practicing their swing, tango, foxtrot, waltz and other moves more than five months ago. They were judged by an expert panel: Oak Crest resident and former professional dancer Darlene Carter, Oak Crest executive director Colleen LoPresto, and Pastoral Ministries' Jim Truitt, who wore a judge's robe and wig.
