GET OUT! Places to Go, and People to See This Weekend!

Blooms, blues and theater in Charm City.

What to do, what to do?  Another Friday will be here in a flash and there are more than a few things going on in and around town this weekend. From green thumbs to Riverdance, step out and find something fun to get into this weekend.

1.  In Full Bloom at the Maryland Home and Garden Show

Where/When: From 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on March 11 and 12, enjoy this botanical show at the Timonium State Fairgrounds on York Road.  See the website for additional information.

Why go? The show features 150,000 square feet of lush, fully landscaped horticulture illustrating the latest in outdoor living trends, and more than 300 exhibitions highlighting the current goods and services to make fixer-upper projects a breeze.

With more than 100 artisans and craftspeople, The Maryland Home and Garden Show is brimming with beauty and this year's theme, "Symphony of Spring," is music to the ears of gardening enthusiasts all around Maryland. Almost 50 informational seminars add interest to the abundant flora on display at the Timonium Fairgrounds. With an educational and informative intent, this show is designed for gardening advice and ideas, spring shopping, and tasty food choices as well.

Pricing: $12 general admission, senior admission is $10, and children ages 6-12 $3.00.  Children under 6 are free.

2.  Get Down

Where/When:  Chef Mac's and All That Blues, March 11

Why Go? Not even 10 minutes down Harford Road from Parkville, national and international blues recording artist Memphis Gold and the Scrap Iron Band comes to Baltimore after two years touring abroad and around. “If it’s authentic, fiery, blazing blues you want, Memphis is the man.” (American Blues News, 3/12/2010)  

Pricing: Live music Fridays and Saturdays , with buffet and music, show is $25 (all inclusive), or, open dining and $10 general admission.

3.  Irish Fanfare

Where/When: The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra plays A Celtic Celebration: Music of the Emerald  Isle at the Meyerhoff this Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., and Sunday at 3 p.m.

Why Go? Gear up for this St. Patty's Day and get in the mood for some revelry with traditional Irish composition as well as a few contemporary movie soundtrack numbers from movies such as Titanic, Brigadoon and Finian’s Rainbow.

Pricing: Tickets range in price from $38 to $71.

4.  Take the Stage

Where/When: At Centerstage—The Pearlstone Theater, Snow Falling on Cedars is currently playing on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 8 p.m.

Why Go? Support local artistes and actors at this dramatic production, set in World War II America, and driven by the cross-cultural issues of the time. Centerstage is known for well-produced and riveting plays.

Pricing: Tickets range in price from $10 to $50.
