Get Out! Weekend Fun Around Town

Celebrate the weekend with fair and festival events, live music, a film club and a book reading by a Baltimore native.

The end-of-the-summer Maryland traditions are back in full force, and a Baltimore native presents his interesting account of mistaken identity this weekend. Enjoy this weekend in the land of pleasant living!

Maryland State Fair in Timonium
Where/When: The fairgrounds in Timonium will host this 130th year of the Maryland State Fair, beginning on Friday, and lasting 11 days. Gates open at 8 a.m. and close at 10 p.m.
Why go: Only newcomers to Maryland might wonder why they should go, and most Baltimoreans would tell them that the combination of the great collection of rides, 4H and FFA shows, entertainment (Blake Shelton, to name one act, plays on Saturday), and horse racing at the track makes this an unparalleled Maryland event.
Price: Adult admission is $8, senior admission (62 & over) is $6, Children's admission (6 to 11) is $3, and children 5 and under are admitted FREE (rides are not included).

Renaissance Festival
Where/When: Weekly on Saturdays and Sundays, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Why go: Revisit a time in history when folks apparently ate giant turkey legs while singing bawdy reels. Step back in time and be entertained by comedy shows and traditional music, archery demonstrations, jousting and stage shows. Enjoy food and crafts; get the kids' faces painted and be a part of the grand revelry of the renaissance!
Price: Adults $19, Senior (62+) $16, Children (7-15) $9, Children (6 & under) Free. Other packages are available.
