Grab and Go Kids Planner

From nature activities to a Preakness festival, family movie night to free family coGrab and Go Kids Plannerncerts, this week has no shortage of kids' activities to explore.

May flowers are in bloom and kids are ready to move into summertime fun. With just a few weeks left of school, check out a some of the exciting things going on in town. 

Wednesday, 5/18

The Natural World of Art at Holt Park in Overlea
Explore the link between art and nature using a variety of materials and techniques through a hands-on art experience. Wednesdays 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Ages 5- 105 (8 & under with adult), $2/person, $5/family per week.  This week, pressed flower arrangements will be made; bring your own, or use some of theirs.

Pajama Storytime at Parkville Library
Let your kids wear their jammies to the library to listen to a bedtime story on Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.  For preschool-aged kids; no registration is required.

Homeschool Garden Club at Cromwell Valley
With only two more weeks left of this program, call to make reservations for your homeschool kids (ages 10 - 18) to take part in this educational activity that teaches about planting and cultivating gardens. Some cooking is also involved, and the concept of sustainable living is introduced.

Preakness Celebration Hot Air Balloon Festival
On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, celebrate a Maryland tradition with your family at Turf Valley outside Ellicott City from 3 - 9 p.m. With  festival favorites like vendors, hot air balloon attractions, Children's PeeWee Preakness races, live music and entertainment, this is a fun day fit for the entire family. Belvedere Square Summer Sounds Concerts
A free and weekly outdoor concert series at Belvedere Square, featuring live music by some Baltimore’s best bands. Enjoy gourmet food and beverages while listening to great music from 6 to 9 p.m. Call 410-464-9773, or visit the link above for more info.

Family Movie Night at Holt Park
This week, show up with the kids at 8 p.m. and see Despicable Me. Bring your own blanket and refreshments, and watch a movie next to the pond where bullfrogs provide the soundtrack with the night songs of the woods.

Faerie Rings & Eco Things Festival
A fundraiser for the park and Nature Center, this multi-cultural festival celebrates spring, eco-awareness, art and all things fairy! Wear your wings; the first 200 children are FREE at the Carrie Murray Nature Center in Baltimore. From 10 a.m.- 6 p.m., tickets are required. Sunday, 5/22

Celebrate Your Style Family Fun Day on The Avenue
A free family event for all ages with live entertainment all day including music and dance, karate, gymnastics and a science show. Children can make free crafts, play games, and meet live creatures from local nature centers. 60+ crafters and businesses throughout the Avenue in White Marsh will be set up outside for attendees to peruse.

Weekend Adventure at Marshy Point!
Full Flower Moon Night Hike & Campfire

On Friday, from 7 - 9 p.m., see the forest & marsh illuminated by the “Full Flower” moon. Later, enjoy a campfire and s’mores!

Awakening Marsh Canoe Trip
This Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., explore the waters of Dundee Creek on a canoe to see nature's transformation from winter to summer. $7 per person, $5 for members.

Mother Earth’s Food
Sunday, from 2 - 4 p.m., learn about edible plants native to Maryland.  Learn which ones are good to eat, and bake food in an earth oven.
