Great Escape: Boordy Vineyards

Where moms can hide out for a day spent with spirits, succulence and sweet sounds.

If you're a mom, it’s a safe bet that “you time” is sometimes further from your thoughts than it should be.  So get your girlfriends together for a ladies day away, not too far away, at our very own local winery—Boordy Vineyards.  It’s a beautiful place for moms to hide out while recharging with food, drink and great music.

This last weekend in February, the fine folks at Boordy provide Fond of You…Fondue, at which you can “spend a relaxing winter afternoon with friends and loved ones, sampling fondues over an open flame cauldron, while listening to local musicians,” according to its website.  You can even take a guided tour of the wine cellar and learn about the fine art of wine making, or "vinification."

After all, mothers are like fine wines.  They can be best appreciated when they have had time to breathe, are paired with a nice dish, and by taking note of complexity and character.  Add in some strong bass notes—music by the band Lovestory (rhythm & jazz) on Saturday, February 26, and The Mudbugs (zydeco) on Sunday, February 27—and you’ve got a perfect recipe for a great escape.
