Parkville Motorists Warned of Possible Icy Roads Friday Morning

Overnight precipitation expected Thursday night into Friday morning could put a snag in morning rush hour traffic, according to State Highway Administration officials.

State Highways Administration officials are warning Maryland motorists that an overnight storm system coming through the region Thursday night could cause icy roads on Friday morning.

"SHA is prepared to respond and treat roads overnight and through Friday morning's rush hour," SHA administrator Melinda B. Peters said in a statement. "The commute could be problematic since the light snow is forecasted to change over to sleet and freezing rain."

Peters encouraged motorists to plan ahead, allow extra time to travel or to alter their schedules to bypass the worst of the conditions.

Crews have also been working over the past several days to repair pothole damage caused by the previous winter storm. The freeze-thaw cycles of extreme winter storms cause potholes to form and crews are doing their best to repair the road damage.

Motorists can access the latest traffic information by calling 511 on a hands-free device.
