PHOTO: Bald Eagle Statue on Cub Hill Road

The statue, commissioned by a Carney resident, is being sculpted by Jim Calder Jr.

A Cub Hill resident commissioned world-renowned woodcarver Jim Calder Jr. to create a statue from a tree near his driveway on Cub Hill Road.

Calder, who grew up on Ontario Avenue in Carney and went to Perry Hall High School, will finish the carving of a bald eagle and a fish today. This photo, taken on Sunday, June 12, shows the work in progress. Passersby stopped to chat, gawk and compliment as Calder worked all afternoon.

An interview with Calder, along with some video, will be coming soon to a Parkville-Overlea Patch near you.
