Providence Volunteer Fire Company Collecting For Sandy Victims

A group of Baltimore County Volunteer Firefighters is trying to do it's part to support families in New Jersey affected by Superstorm Sandy.

Providence Volunteer Fire Company is collecting slightly new and used clothing and toys and supplies, at the fire station (1416 Providence Road) until Dec. 15.

"We decided to get involved because of our 60 plus year tradition of taking Santa Claus to the community on Christmas Eve. We wanted to extend our holiday tradition to the people in New Jersey," said company member Garry Zour. "We just saw the devastation and felt that was a way that we could help those people," a company spokesman said.

Donations can be dropped off at the station any time day or night.

In addition, the Providence Volunteer Fire Company will be bringing Santa to the Parkville Community Tree Lighting at 6 p.m. Saturday. Zour said that Parkvillians who wish to donate can drop items off then.

"If people would like to donate Christmas supplies like ornaments, artificial trees, Christmas lights ... things that would bring joy and happiness to some of those families during the holiday season we’ll gladly take that. We’ll also take cleaning supplies, food, thing like that," Zour said.

Monetary donations may also be made by sending a check with "Sandy Fund" in the memo line, made out to the Providence Volunteer Fire Company.
