Vintage Parkville-Overlea: Hearse Fleet

Check out this historical photograph, courtesy of the Baltimore County Public Library.

Sorry for the morbid subject matter in this week's photo, which is of exactly what it looks like—a fleet of hearses.

What makes this photo interesting, though, is that the hearses in the photo, which was taken in 1920, were owned by a funeral home that still operates in the Parkville-Overlea area today.

According to an entry in the Baltimore County Public Library catalog, where this image is hosted, the hearses are part of a 1916-1918 Pierce-Arrow fleet.

Can you guess which funeral home owned the hearses pictured here? I'll give you one hint: the photo was taken on Belair Road.

I would guess that it is Lassahn's Funeral Home which has been around as long as I can remember. I don't recognize the building in the background though.

Apparently my last comment was flagged. I'll clean it up: Surprise, Surprise, the offer is onlyRead More good for NEW customers. Yet I've been a "loyal" Comcast customer for over 15 years now, never late on a payment nor complained when my service failed or I've had an issue that wasn't resolved without me taking "above and beyond" steps. Comcast is a juggernaut that just doesn't care if once it gets your business. You get locked in and then are stuck until your "contract" expires. Mine expires 2/22/2014 or I could cancel and pay $200. I'm going to hold out and then cut cable all together and just have Internet service so my Rokus work. But Verizon FIOS is looking better by the day.
