Wintry Mix Could Put a Snag in Baltimore-Area Thanksgiving Travel

A winter weather advisory is in effect for much of Maryland though Tuesday afternoon.

The National Weather Service has published a hazardous weather outlook for the rest of this week for much of the Maryland region.

A "light wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain" is expected to fall late Monday night in areas west of Interstate 95, causing meteorologists to issue a winter weather advisory for that area late tonight through Tuesday afternoon.

Heavy rainfall on could lead to localized flooding Tuesday night into Wednesday, one of the nation's most heavily traveled day as people make their Thanksgiving plans.

Light snowfall accumulations are possible Wednesday afternoon and evening, according to the weather service's website.

In the Parkville area, there's about a 30 percent chance of snow and sleet after 5 a.m. Tuesday, with a 100 percent chance of rain being added to the mix before 9 a.m. Tuesday's high is expected to be about 43 degrees, after an overnight low of around 35.

Rain could be heavy Tuesday night, with 1 to 2 inches possible. More rain is expected Wednesday, with more rain and snow showers likely. More snow showers are possible, mainly before 10 p.m. Wednesday.

Thursday is expected to be mostly sunny, with a high of about 40 degrees.
