'Art With A Purpose' in Overlea

A group of women organized an art show and sale that will be held Saturday at an Overlea church.

If you're looking for hats, scarves or mittens to keep warm as the weather cools down, an Overlea area church should be a stop for you this weekend.

Overlea Chapel United Methodist Church, 3902 Overlea Avenue, will host an art show and sale organized by a group called Art With a Purpose.

According to event organizer and Overlea Community Association member Kimberly King, the focus of the art show and sale will be jewelry and textile arts and it will feature between 12 and 15 local artists.

This is the second year the show will be held, and King said that she's still looking for more artists to participate. Anyone interested is welcome to contact her for more information.

King said that the show is the brainchild of a three-woman artists' group called Art With A Purpose that includes King, Carole Hansen and Grayce Johnson.

"We actually met at an exhibit on textiles at the Baltimore Museum of Art," said King, an Overlea resident. "The group really started as a sewing group but it's grown—Carole is a master seamstress, she makes incredible handbags. Grayce has a background in jewelry."
