The Brothers Yares in Concert

Presented by Artistic Synergy of Baltimore

Saturday July 21st at 8:00 p.m.

The Brothers Yares (formally HOLLER!): American folk and rock music born in the wilds of Southern New Jersey and steeped in the bewilderment of the Middle East. Check out when Jersey comes to Jaf...fa and back! --

Upright bass, 12 string guitar, more strings than you can shake a stick at ....throw in a little brotherly love and abuse, a helping of good ol' Americana, and a touch of the Middle East and you have The Brothers Yares.

Based in one of the Middle East's oldest cities, Jaffa, Israel, Ami is a transplanted American, negotiating identity and music in a much different world than that of his upbringing. Being away from home intensifies the things that you miss and want/need, becoming much more apparent in the daylight and haunting in the evening, but for Ami, it's become music and words.

Using Americana (folk, bluegrass, country, and much more) as his muse, Ami's lyrics and music are the negotiation of past, present, and future. You can hear it in the depths of his music; something familiar, close, even warm. Yet, this is no tribute to the past. It's an exclamation of the present, something new and always reborn in performance.

In this swiftly moving world, slow down, speed up, or just sit with this music that Ami and his co-conspirators have created to make meaning in this mad, mad world.

"A multicultural sharing of sounds that pay homage to his homeland" - Sing Out!
