Business Association Announces Holiday Contest

The Parkville-Carney Business Association is accepting participants for the 2011 holiday window-decorating contest.

It may seem like we still have a long while before the holiday season begins, with Halloween recently behind us and Thanksgiving on the horizon. But just like retailers must do at the beginning of November, the Parkville-Carney Business Association is already looking ahead.

For the fifth year running the association will host a holiday window-decorating contest this December. Ed Pinder, the group's president, said the association is accepting participants now.

"We're challenging local civic groups and schools to come up with the best window display," Pinder said in an email.

Each participanting group will decorate the window of a business in the Parkville-Carney area and compete for a chance to win money for their school or group. The first step is to let the business association know you're interested—drop a line to Ed Pinder by Dec. 1.

Each group will be assigned a volunteer business to decorate with water-soluble paint, and the business association will clean up the windows afterward. Photos of the artwork will be submitted to the Parkville-Carney Business Association and posted on its website.

Last year, Parkville High School and Loch Raven High School were the big winners—each recieving $225—but everyone who entered earned a prize.

Who knows, maybe this year it could be your group.
