Frugal Family: Memorial Day Edition

If you're staying in the Parkville area this weekend for Memorial Day festivities, here are some great deals your family can take advantage of!

Entertainment

• Baltimore is playing host to the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championships again this year! Events and games are scheduled throughout the weekend. If you don't want to shell out the money for a ticket, consider taking your little laxer to the FREE LAXperience Fan Zone at Ravens Way near M&T Bank Stadium on Saturday or Sunday. Or kids can get in on the action at a Youth Clinic that's open to the public on Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

• If something patriotic is more your speed for Memorial Day weekend, head to Fort McHenry on Monday. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., special events will include wreath-layings, a flag demonstration involving veterans (at noon), observance of the National Moment of Silence (at 3 p.m. in the Star Fort), historic Memorial Day speeches and special programs about the history of Memorial Day. Admission is $7 for adults and FREE for kids 15 and under.

• Memorial Day weekend is one of the biggest shopping events of the year, with most stores offering some kind of discount. Visit Shopping Guru for a great compilation of the many sales going on, including 50 percent off at Joann Fabrics, 25 percent off at The Gap and 50 percent off at Sears.

Dining
