Klein's ShopRite Opens In Perring Crossing

The new grocery store is in the shopping center on Cleanleigh Drive.

The Parkville area's newest grocery store is set to open to the public Friday morning after a ribbon-cutting and preview luncheon Thursday afternoon.

The 56,000 square foot Klein's ShopRite, owned and operated by Harford County's Klein family, will offer fresh produce, meat and seafood along wth baked goods, natural, organic and gluten-free products, according to a statement from the company.

At the Thursday ribbon-cutting event Klein's Chief Operations Officer Marshall Klein told community members and officials that his family was excited to be moving to the Parkville/Loch Raven community, where they'd been seeking to open a store for about three years.

"This has been one of the longest and shortest projects I've been a part of," Klein said. He explained that though the family-owned business had been looking to make a move into Baltimore County for years, the actual construction of the store took only 90 days once the ball was rolling.

At Thursday's preview, Fifth District County Coucilman David Marks said that he'd been involved in many shopping center and grocery store openings but that he couldn't recall one so involved with the community.

"You reached out to community members and elected officials, and I commend you for that," he said.

Marks also touched on the economic importance of the project. He echoed a statement from Klein's that the store would create 250 jobs in the community.

State Sen. Kathy Klausmeier offered a citation to the Klein family on behalf of her office.

"It will really help the community who will be able to walk here, and buy their groceries, and to employ all these people. I just want to say thank you," Klausmeier said.
