Micro Center Coming to Perring Plaza

The retailer will open its 24th location nationwide and second in Maryland in Parkville.

A new tenant is coming to Perring Plaza this fall.

Micro Center, a national computer and electronics retailer, will move into the space left vacant when the RoomStore moved out of the shopping center.

A grand opening date has not been set at this point but Lisa Geiger, a spokeswoman for Federal Realty, said the management company expects the new store should open in November.

Ed Lukens, a spokesman for Micro Center, said the company is excited to open the new store—the second in Maryland and first in the Baltimore metropolitan area.

Already, the company has launched a contest through their Facebook page and plans to give away one LG 3D HDTV per week until Oct. 21.

Lukens explained that Micro Center stores feature a large "Build Your Own PC" department as well as "Knowledge Bars" where customers can go for advice and technical support.

In addition, he said, the stores are equipped with "Knowledge Theaters" where free computer clinics are held on the weekends.

The shop will deal in both Apple and PC products and Lukens said they have one of the largest selections of Apple accessories outside of an Apple store.

"Many of our customers remark how Micro Center is like a brick & mortar version of Newegg or TigerDirect," Lukens said.
