Overlea Businesses Recognized for Holiday Spirit

The competition was tough but the Overlea Community Association recently singled out two businesses for their spirited displays created for the organization's annual Overlea Holiday Lights Contest.

Heavenly Automotive at 6909 Belair Road won the first-place prize for a "creative display of hubcap and rim parts" in its storefront windows, according to a statement from OCA officials. The window display was augmented with an outdoor tree and wreath made from pine branches.

The automotive business received a cash prize from OCA, a gift card to Carrabba's Italian Grill and a year of free advertising in the OCA newsletter.

The Overlea branch of Rosedale Federal Savings and Loan won second place for transforming its lobby into a winter wonderland, complete with two lighted trees, wreaths, lighting and a holiday floor covering. Employees Keith Vogtman and Dana Cook were recognized for their work in designing the Rosedale Federal display.

The awards were announced by association President Dennis Robinson Sr. and Vice President Doris Franz-Poling with Baltimore County Councilwoman Cathy Bevins at the OCA's Jan. 2 meeting.

"Overlea is rich in history and filled with devoted residents who love our neighborhood," Robinson said in the statement. "The volunteers who worked on this contest pay tribute to the spirit of our community. They embody what makes Overlea a great place to live."

Association volunteers Kim King and Steve Stout worked to get word out to business owners about the contest, according to the statement.

Other participating businesses were B&F Atlantic Station, Creative Impulse Dance, Designers' Den, QP Management and Building Services, Pizza Hut, Unique Nails, Universal Catering and Events at the Overlea Events Center, Brian the Barber, Geddes and Service Course Cycle Studio.

"The OCA sincerely appreciates the efforts of all the businesses that joined in the contest this year and looks forward to an even greater participation next year," officials said in the statement.
