Rosedale Bakery to Open New Location in Carney

Yia Yia's Bakery, a Rosedale mainstay, will open the doors at their new store in Carney this Friday morning.

It's not much of a secret that there aren't many coffee shops and bakeries in the Carney area. Sure, there's a Starbucks in the Safeway in North Plaza, and a Dunkin Donuts in Satyr Hill Shopping Center,  but nothing locally-owned and independent, short of Fenwick Bakery on Harford Road in the city.

That's about to change when Yia Yia's Bakery opens its second location in the old Forthuber's building, located at 3010 E. Joppa Road in the heart of Carney.

The store will be managed by Stacey Korologos, who spoke with Patch by phone Thursday afternoon to confirm the opening of the new location.

"We're opening for business tomorrow morning," Korologos said. The store will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., on Sunday.

Baking will not be done on-site but Korologos said the store will be getting deliveries two to three times a day from the main location on Philadelphia Road in Rosedale.

"Whenever we run out, they'll be bringing us more stuff," she said.

Making the decision to expand to Carney was a no-brainer, according to Korologos. Yia Yia's Bakery has a partnership with Raimondi's Florist, which has a location inside the Rosedale bakery and now in part of the Forthuber's building.

"The business is doing really well and we're looking to expand even further around (I)-695 in the future," Korologos said.

The new shop will be smaller than the location in Rosedale, having room for about 3 display cases of pastries and a few tables — but it will still be a place where customers can stop for a muffin or danish and coffee on their morning commute, according to Korologos.
