Cousins To Sweeten Parkville with Frozen Yogurt

Sweet Peach, a family-owned, self-serve frozen yogurt, will open next to Cafe Euro this summer.

Looking to satiate your sweet tooth? Soon you won't have to look much further than Parkville Shopping Center.

Cousins Ricky Chen and Tony Zhang just recently signed a lease on the space at 7613 Harford Road and are planning to open up the first Sweet Peach Premium Frozen Yogurt shop later this summer.

Chen, who works as a site developer, recently went out to Denver, CO to develop multiple Yogurt Time shops, and that's when he got the idea to go into business for himself.

"I decided to start my own [yogurt shop] and my cousin was interested, that's how we wound up here," Chen said.

Chen is a Virginia native but Zhang, who will manage the Parkville Sweet Peach, is familiar with Baltimore County—he owns a couple of Chinese restaurants in Towson: and .

"We're going to have 14 self-serve yogurt machines, and we're planning to reserve a few of them for best-sellers," Chen said. "The rest will rotate between the hundred-or-so available flavors."

And they're planning to have a toppings bar with an array of 48 items—everything from cereal to chocolate and syrups. You'll be able to get your froyo in a cup or in a waffle cone, Chen said.

The business, which is set to open in mid-July, will be open from 10 a.m.-11:30 p.m. and will feature outdoor seating, as well as a kid-friendly atmosphere.

"We're planning to have a projector video game," Chen said. "Decor will either be super kid-friendly, lots of bright pinks, yellows and greens, or ultra modern, space age. We haven't decided yet, but we're working with a designer on it."

Soon demolition will begin and then Chen will have a contractor in to start the build out. After that? The Parkville location will open its doors and Chen and Zhang will likely open another shop in the area.

"We're looking to have three or four stores open by the end of this year, 10 to 12 by the end of next," Chen said. "And then we'll start franchising."
