UPDATE: Former Dealership Vacancy Filled for Now

A furniture shop has occupied the former location of a Schaefer & Strominger auto dealership on Belair Road.

It looks like has been filled, at least temporarily, as an Overstock Furniture store moved into the former Schaefer & Strominger auto dealership showroom.

Jose Santana, the leasing agent for the property at 8115 Belair Road, said that the Overstock Furniture store is on a "short-term" lease and that the property will become available again, when the terms of the current contract expire.

Santana, who works for the Seagall Group, also told Patch that a second building on the property would soon be occupied by RSC Equipment Rentals.

According to that company's website, it deals primarily in heavy construction equipment rental—bulldozers, skid-steer loaders, front-end loaders and the like—as well as sales of used contruction equipment.

Do you think these businesses are a good fit for the neighborhood? Tell us what you think in the comments.

It could be worse!

Jennifer, I agree. I think that the rental biz could be fairly good for the area — I'm not sure that there's another place with a similar focus.
It would be better if the furniture store were more permanent, but on the other hand a recent study of the Belair Road corridor named the former dealership as an "opportunity site" — so at least it's still available for redevelopment.

Just happy to see something in the space. If the "temps" do well, then maybe something will decide it's a good permanent place!

Apparently my last comment was flagged. I'll clean it up: Surprise, Surprise, the offer is onlyRead More good for NEW customers. Yet I've been a "loyal" Comcast customer for over 15 years now, never late on a payment nor complained when my service failed or I've had an issue that wasn't resolved without me taking "above and beyond" steps. Comcast is a juggernaut that just doesn't care if once it gets your business. You get locked in and then are stuck until your "contract" expires. Mine expires 2/22/2014 or I could cancel and pay $200. I'm going to hold out and then cut cable all together and just have Internet service so my Rokus work. But Verizon FIOS is looking better by the day.
