Cal Ripken Documentary "A Shortstop in China" gets RLTV Cable Network Premiere

Renegade documentary featuring the All-American Sports Icon to air March 1st

Baltimore, Md. – Renegade Productions, the TV/video production branch of marketing  and advertising agency Renegade Communications, today announced that RLTV, the only cable network and online destination for Generation 50+, will air an exclusive screening of the Renegade’s documentary “A Shortstop in China” on March 1, 2014. “A Shortstop in China” documents Hall of Famer Cal Ripken, Jr. on his first diplomatic trip to China as an American Public Diplomacy Envoy. The film is scheduled to air on March 1st on RLTV at 8:00pm EST.

“A Shortstop in China” follows America's Iron Man as he embraces the challenge of his new career as a diplomat. Shortly after being inducted into the Hall of Fame, Cal Ripken Jr. was named American Public Diplomacy Envoy by the U.S. State Department. His first mission was to travel to China and create a personal dialogue with youth around the world through the universal language of sports. As this documentary illustrates, Cal Ripken Jr. continues to be a role model for children around the world, and the game of Baseball continues to unite people of many languages and cultures.

“We are thankful for the opportunity to partner with RLTV and air a documentary we are extremely proud of,” said Tim Watkins, Director/Producer/Principal of Renegade Productions. “RLTV shares our similar goals and vision to create moving content that enhances the human experience and we look forward to our continued work with them in the future.”

“A Shortstop in China” features footage from the 11 clinics Ripken and former Oriole B.J. Surhoff held from Beijing to Guangzou, as well as a recording of Ripken accepting his appointment from former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, and a variety of interviews including Ripken’s wife and former Undersecretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs, Karen Hughes. The feature also provides a unique glimpse into the unprecedented economic and political growth of an emerging global powerhouse.

Earlier this month, RLTV and Renegade Communications announced a deal in which RLTV acquired the rights to air “A Shortstop in China” as part of a development deal for future documentaries and series produced by Renegade.

“Renegade Productions, led by the industrious Tim Watkins, brings years of experience and maturity in the digital media industry to their production and post-production work” said RLTV Chief Content Officer Elliot Jacobson, “This powerhouse production company is perfect fit for us and we look forward to future collaborations with Tim and his team.”

To kick-off their partnership, RLTV aired an exclusive screening of “In The Face of Evil”—the award-winning documentary which chronicles the brutal conflict between totalitarianism and freedom as seen through President Ronald Reagan's 40-year confrontation with communism--on  February 6th and then again,  due to its overwhelming popularity, on its cable network, this past President’s Day on February 17th.
