New Books at the Library This Week

Passing Love by Jacqueline Luckett
Divorced and in her mid-fifties, an African-American woman, Nicole, decides to fulfill a lifelong dream after the death of a friend to spend a month in Paris. While there she tries to uncover the mystery of an old photo she found and a woman whose race and connection to her father is unknown. Interwoven is the parallel narrative of Ruby, who has left the Jim Crow south for a life in Paris in the early 1950s.

Bond Girl by Erin Duffy
Described as The Devil Wears Prada meets Wall Street. Recent college grad Alex gets a job on Wall Street in a bond trading firm but spends a good deal of time running errands, picking up coffee, dodging unwanted advances as well as dealing with the numerous other obstacles of her chosen male-dominated profession. Fast-paced and fun.

An entertaining and engaging look for children at lesser known African-American inventors from one of the NBA’s most recognizable greats (and recently appointed Global Cultural Ambassador), Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
