Man Charged In Double Shooting Involving 4-Year-Old

The shooting occurred Monday in an Overlea area neighborhood Tuesday afternoon.

A man has been arrested and charged with two counts of attempted murder following the shooting of a 23-year-old man and his 4-year-old daughter in the Elmwood community on Tuesday.

Resean Penix, 23, of the 5700 block of Leiden Road, faces two counts each of attempted first-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment as well as two charges related to the use of a handgun in a violent crime, according to a search of online court records.

Penix is being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center, court records show; a preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. May 3 in Baltimore County District Court.

On Tuesday evening around 8:30 p.m. Penix and the 23-year-old man were talking on the telephone and arranged to meet, according to police. When the man arrived at the intersection of Old Home and Meadow Roads in the Elmwood neighborhood, Penix allegedly approached his car, displayed a gun and demanded money.

Penix allegedly fired a shot which struck the man in the hand and his 4-year-old daughter in the legs, according to police.

Both victims were driven by a family member to Franklin Square Hospital, where they were treated for non life-threatening injuries, according to police.

At the time the shooting occurred Penix was out on bail after being arrested on drug charges in Baltimore City; he is scheduled to appear in Baltimore City District Court on May 8, according to online court records.
