Schools Closed After Winter Storm

About 4 inches of snow and sleet fell overnight, causing school closures on Tuesday.

Baltimore County Public Schools are closed today because of snow-covered roads resulting from an overnight storm. 

Snow and sleet began shortly before 9 p.m. on Monday and continued through early Tuesday morning.  As of 5:30 a.m., snow was beginning to taper off but still falling around the region.

A winter weather advisory remains in effect until 7 a.m. on Tuesday, and nearly four inches have blanketed the Parkville-Overlea area.

The Snow Emergency Plan is in effect for Baltimore County, meaning that:

  • vehicles must be equipped with snow or all-weather radial tires or chains
  • no parking is permitted on designated snow emergency routes

According to the Baltimore County Snow Fighter website, 450 personnel using 320 pieces of equipment began salting operations at 8 p.m. on Monday.

Crews worked throughout the night, and the website reports that about 15-20 percent of the plowing has been completed in each region of the county. 

The website states: "450 personnel have salted all county roads. Most major roads have been plowed. Secondary roads are still snow covered. Plowing will continue throughout the day."
