Tornado Warning in Effect, Severe Thunderstorms to Follow

The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for Baltimore and Harford counties during the afternoon of May 18.

UPDATE (4:24 p.m.) — The National Weather Service tornado warning has been extended until 4:45 p.m.

At 4:10 p.m. the National Weather Service radar detected a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado near Middle River moving northwest at 25 mph.  Areas that could be impacted by the storm include Parkville-Carney and the surrounding areas.

The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for an area that includes Parkville and Overlea, as well as the rest of Baltimore and Harford Counties.

The warning went into effect at 3:15 p.m. and will last until 3:30 p.m. for those areas.

Severe weather is expected to continue throughout the remainder of the day with a flash flood warning in effect for areas of eastern Baltimore County until 5:45 p.m. and a severe thunderstorm warning in effect until 9 p.m.

Thunderstorms this afternoon and evening could bring large hail, damaging winds and heavy rain.

The National Weather Service seven-day forecast shows the possibility of thunderstorms continuing through late Friday evening.

Saturday is the only clear day in sight, with a high of 77 degrees and partly sunny skies.
