Visions for Vacancies: 7536 Belair Road

What would you like to see in this commercial vacancy?

The lot facing Belair Road between Belhaven Drive and Delight Avenue has sat vacant since the McDonald's store that once occupied it was demolished late last year.

Today, I'm curious as to what you think would be a good fit for this commercial vacancy the Overlea-Fullerton area.

The lot, which is offered for sale by Colliers International for $635,000, is approximately 2.2 acres.

Currently, almost an entire acre of the property is zoned for business use while the remaining space is zoned for up to 5.5 homes per acre.

Information on the Colliers listing for the property says the property has up to 25,710 cars drive by every day.

What business do you think would be a good fit for the Overlea-Fullerton neighborhood in this location? Tell us in the comments.

Everyone is going to want a food place and the article should have mentioned that McDonald's has a clause that no food place cna be on that site for 20 years ( I think that's how long the mortiurm is??). Need to insert that FYI into the article

I didn't know that a moratorium of that sort could be enforced; isn't that weird. From a retail standpoint, I think that stretch is pretty well represented. This might be a good place for a building that offers services rather than goods, e.g. office space.

Not that I'm a fast food proponent, but does anyone know why exactly mc d's left? It seemed like a great location for fast food with the proximity to highways and the daily passerby traffic...maybe if we knew that we could petition someone else to build on it, I'm tired of seeing the empty lot everyday, and all things considered it hasn't even been that long.

I would love to see a Boston Market since the closest one is at York Road near Lake Avenue (may be one in Belair MD). But I guess McD's closed the door on that thought. As for office space, the old Paramount Theater is for sale and it has office space that has been vacant.

That McDonalds was there forever. I went there as a little girl when it was the old red and white building and hamburgers were 10 cents. Geez, I'm getting old! I'd be curious to know why it left too. Boston Market would be good, and Sherri is right, those two locations are the closest. However, I know it was a nightmare getting in and out of that parking lot. So something with high traffic might not be a good idea. Office space would not be bad, but there is so much vacant space around. Would there be anything wrong with simply making it a parking lot or a "green" area? I know that would not bring money to the area, but parking is tough at some of the businesses nearby. I know, because I struggle for a spot myself.
