BE AWARE Carney Residents: Door-to-Door Scam and Sightings of Unfamiliar White Van or Red Pickup Truck

There have been reports of people canvassing Carney neighborhoods claiming to be selling cleaning products or claiming to represent BGE.

There was a recent burglary on Superior Avenue and a neighbor approached to intervene and the neighbor was assaulted.  There was a white van at that scene.

There have been reports of sightings of a white van or red pick up truck circulating around our Carney streets.  Call the Baltimore County Police Department on 911 to report if you see either these or any other lingering vehicles that are not normal on your street.

I was told that there have been unusual visitors or people alleging to sell cleaning products or claiming to be from BGE and/or the suspicious white van or red pick up truck on Placid Avenue, Montego Avenue, Ontario Avenue, Erie Avenue, Summit Avenue and Acre Court.

While alone in the house last week, my daughter-in-law told me that someone came to our home at night.  It happened to be a woman alleging to sell cleaning products.  She told my daughter-in-law that my neighbor Pat referred her to us.  I know absolutely that this was a lie  because I talked to my neighbor's wife.  My daughter-in-law told the woman she did not want to buy anything and asked the woman for a brochure and she said she did not have any brochures.  After that the woman left.

Today my U.S. Postal Service delivery lady came to my door with a package that needed a signature.  With no prodding, she told my husband to be aware of people coming to the door and that there was an incident in the 3100 block of Summit Avenue.  I then went to the door to speak with her and she said she had also heard of suspicious activity on Placid Avenue.

I have also been told that there are similar events occurring in Perry Hall and by chance I learned of the same type of scam was occurring in my niece's neighborhood in Bel Air in Harford County.

I spoke with Pat Crum who is the Secretary of the Parkville Police Community Relations Council and she advised me that the Parkville Precinct is aware of the large number of reports of suspicious activity.

If you experience any similar or any suspicious scam activity call 911 and report it the Baltimore County Police Department. Tell your neighbors to be alert for white van, red pick up truck that is lingering or people alleging to sell cleaning products or people alleging to work for BGE.

Do not open your door to anyone you do not know. Call 911 to report suspicious persons or vehicles in your neighborhood.

Better safe than sorry!
