Why should you pay $5 to Join the Carney Improvement Association?

The Carney Improvement Association (CIA) needs YOU!! Without members the CIA is nothing. Only $5 to join the CIA. Help your community retain a good quality of life!

Won't you try to find $5 to join or renew your membership in the Carney Improvement Association? 

We have lowered the dues to $5 to make membership affordable to all.   

Just send your name, address, phone and email address on a plain paper to CIA, 3012 Summit Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21234.  Don't forget to include a check for $5.  If you prefer to pay in person come to the May meeting! Thanks to all who have continued to support the CIA and its good works.  Without you we are nothing!

Accomplishments in 2012-2013:

Zoning and Traffic

  • Worked to preserve East Avenue buffer of green space, but zoning change by Councilwoman Bevins allowed Mile One Heritage to swallow up the green space buffer and park cars up to East Avenue Homeowners' Property lines (Councilwoman Bevins);

 

  • Worked to prevent a large apartment complex at Harford and Northwind Roads (Councilman Marks);

 

  • Worked to prevent a convenience store from being built at Joppa Road and Magledt Road (Councilman Marks);

 

  • Worked to try to prevent homes being built at Carneyland (Councilman Marks and Councilman Huff);

 

  • Worked to make CVS as unobtrusive as possible-now CVS will not be built due to cost of relocating utilities (Councilman Marks);

 

  • Worked to get improvements to the intersection at Harford Road and Joppa Road (Councilman Marks and Councilman Huff); and

 

  • Worked to make the intersection of Harford Road and Placid Avenue safe [this is the location of the hump in Harford Road that severely limits sight distance] by making Placid Avenue traffic "Right Turn Only" for the current (west) and new (east)  legs of Placid Avenue (Councilman Marks and Councilman Huff;

 

Community Quality of Life

  • Provide a website www.carneymd.us which has valuable information for our members [Thanks to webmaster Pat Rooney.]CIA Sponsored with the Sons of the American Legion the annual Carney Veterans' Commemoration where the flagpole [donated by Bernie and Paulette Wallace and made possible by Senator Kathy Klausmeier] was dedicated at the Carney Veterans' Memorial;

 

  • Enhanced a community partnership with the Carney Elementary School PTA with the help of Principal Stacey Durkovic;

 

  • Sponsored the 13th Annual Visit with Santa and Community Tree Lighting which was well attended by parents and children primarily from Carney [made possible by the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. Santa and all the CIA volunteers];

 

  • With the Carney ES PTA we sponsored the Carney Community Spring Fling Dumpster Day and where 4 roll-off dumpsters were filled and the Carney ES Dad's Club had a flower sale which was a total success;

 

  • Held meetings of the CIA in September, November, January, March and May with guest speakers to keep the members informed; and

 

  • Collaborate with the Parkville Precinct 8 Police Community Relations Council and the Greater Parkville Community Council by promoting their meetings.

 

We work hard as volunteers to try to retain the good quality of life that Carney offers.  We need your membership!
